Freddie Quill’s Moonshine from “The Master”
Note: By reusing the Villa Italia bottle, it makes your party table look sophisticated, glamorous and adds a touch of red.
- 1 bottle of Villa Italia Italian Blood Orange Soda
- 1 small bottle of vodka (your choice)
- Juice of one fresh orange or grapefruit
DIRECTIONS: Empty 3/4’s blood orange soda into a bowl, mix with vodka and fresh juice. Pour mixture back into Villa Italia Blood Orange Soda bottle.
Lady Mary Crawley Duchess Potato Bites from “Downton Abbey”
Note: These can be piped ahead of time but do not cook until you are ready to serve. Makes 24.
- 4 russet potatoes
- A splash of milk
- A pad of butter
- 1 egg white
- 1 disposable decorating bag
- 1 large open star tip (Michael’s had a good selection; get the largest star opening)
- 1 coupler for bag & tip (I didn’t have one so I just put the tip through the plastic bag and held a seal at the tip and it worked just fine)
- 1 bottle of edible gold shimmer dust
DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Peel and cut potatoes into 1″ cubes and place in a large pot of boiling water. Cook until tender with a fork. Drain and transfer to a bowl. Add butter and milk and mash potatoes until smooth; season with salt and pepper. Allow mixture to cool a bit. Put tip in bag and fill with potatoes. Pipe potatoes onto wax paper. Brush with egg white. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until slightly golden brown on the tips. Sprinkle with edible gold dust and serve immediately.

Mix nuts and berries in the melted butter. Divide cooked apples among cups, top with nut/raisin mixture, and complete with a spoonful of ice cream.
Taratino’s Blood Spattered Popcorn from “Django Unchained”
Note: Every awards party needs popcorn but elevate your party by serving your popcorn in individual mini-gold Chinese take out containers. Now that’s sophistication! I can’t take credit for this idea as it’s from the wonderful Sugar and Spice; however, I did find that if you make it earlier in the day before your party, it will have time to dry and will not be as messy.
- 1 bowl of unseasoned popcorn
- 1/2 stick of butter
- Red icing color (do not use food coloring)
DIRECTIONS: Melt butter and 1/2 – 1tsp of red icing color until the butter is a nice shade of blood red. Pour a small amount of the butter and kosher salt over cooled popcorn and toss. Repeat. Taste and adjust until you get that perfect buttery movie popcorn.
The Most Amazing Delicious Chicken Tandoori Skewers from “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”

“Become-a-star” mini cupcakes
Note: Make it easy on yourself! Grab a box of one of Trader Joe’s Cake & Baking mixes – they are delish! Then whip up a homemade butter cream frosting. Don’t even worry about mini-cupcake liners. Generously spray your mini muffin tin with Pam and they will pop right out.
